Week 3 match reports

After two weeks of perfect weather it was inevitable that the rain would catch up with at some point, so unfortunately only 3 sides hit the field this weekend with both the under 14 teams along with 2nds, 3rds and 4ths all having washouts.

Under 12-3

HBCC 2/90 vs Kilysth 7/90 (match in progress)
Emma Mole 24 ret n.o, Tom Lanyon 21 ret n.o, Xavier Munro 3/13, Tyson Darmody 1/3

Our first two-dayer of the year happened to coincide with a school concert for five members of the team but fortunately we won the toss and bowled so we could best get through the night. The bowling and fielding was a touch ragged early but a couple of good wickets helped us get into the groove. Kilsyth looked to get on top again in the middle before Tyson grabbed a key wicket, followed by Xavier who picked up three in his three overs. At the split we had done well to have them 7/90 with only one retiree.

Again, there were some shaky moments early with the bat but once Emma and Tommy found some touch, they set us up perfectly as they both retired with a 50+ opening partnership. After 21.4 overs we called things off at the fall of our second wicket with us even with their total. Overall a really good first day with plenty of good efforts.

Under 12-6

HBCC 45 lost to Scoresby 4/72
Jethro Steen 8 n.o and 1/12, Josh Simnett 1/9

The younger under 12s had a tough day at the crease in round 2 with all batsmen being dismissed bowled in just ion 16 overs. Jethro Steen proved the backbone of the innings and finished 8 not out from 29 balls. Oscar and Mackenzie also did well and improved on their first game efforts. The team put in a great effort in the field with Josh and Jethro getting the first couple of wickets for the season along with Cooper and Mackenzie who each got run outs. An improved effort in the field but a bit of work do be done on protective the wickets.

First XI

HBCC vs Croydon Ranges 7/239
Glenn Oakley 5/40

The ones took the field in difficult conditions with most of the RDCA called off for the day following steady morning rain. We lost the toss and Ranges had no hesitation in batting first.
The wet ball and slippery run outs made things difficult throughout the day but the boys stuck at it with excellent ground fielding all day - saving many runs and the energy level of the team was high all day. A few missed opportunities after tea hurt as Ranges had a 90 run 7th wicket partnership as Croydon Ranges built towards a big score at 6/197 with 19 overs to go.

To the boys credit they worked hard for the last hour and kept Ranges to 7/239. Glenn, Damon, Brent bowled beautifully - Rav & Slats also bowled good spells. With a very strong batting card the lads will be set to bat the overs next week and should be right in it.
